September Greetings!

September Greetings!

Last week Rachelle Wilkinson and Jennifer Marks used materials from AnswersInGenesis to do a Backyard VBS. Different times sometimes call for different ways to get the Gospel out. Praise the Lord that the Gospel never changes!

Thursday night we enjoyed a concert by the quartet Forever Be Sure. There were more people in attendance than I expected, and they sure stayed afterwards for good fellowship!

This Sunday, August 30 – Wednesday, September 2 we are having REVIVAL Meetings with Evangelist Mike Pelletier:

If you are in our area, we’d love to have you join us (Sunday: 9:30, 10:30, 6:00 and then Monday-Wednesday 7:00).

Our team is co-laboring with the churches that we are in,

across America and across the world,

seeking God for revival and reaching the lost for Christ.

We desire for God to heal our land.”

Change! Are you weary of it? If so, here’s a good verse to think about:

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever! (Hebrews 13:8)

Change! My wife and I are currently somewhat separated. Lord willing, it won’t be for too long though! Last week Wanda moved in with her Mom to provide the increased care that she needs. Mom only lives ~10 minutes away, so that is good. And we are thankful that we can honor her in this way. It does give me a good reminder of God’s perfect Word—And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him; Genesis 2:18. 😊

Change! I will be moving to join Wanda at her Mom’s house as soon as we can do some renovations to make this possible. So that means the parsonage will be empty…

Change! For several years we have been praying about “passing the baton” as far as the next pastor of SVBC. Recently the Lord has brought a young man to us and we are seriously seeking to discern if the Lord is calling him to come to SVBC as an assistant pastor to be mentored to be the next senior pastor. Please join us in earnest prayer about this!

Please continue to pray:

  • MaryAnn Egrie is home from the hospital. Her mother is staying with her to help her.
  • Rick Young is continuing with radiation treatments.

With some folks concerned about gatherings because of COVID-19, we have been praying about how to more effectively minister. Recently on Sunday nights we have been having some different opportunities. I’m thinking of it as Evening Edification and Evangelism. It has been great to hear of some of our young men as well as others effectively leading some small group Bible studies at their homes. Then one of our older men had a good idea and gave us a list of 3 homes where new people have just moved in. We have had several good opportunities to reach in to our church family on a more personal basis and encourage them spiritually as well as to reach out to the lost. The deacons and I are praying and seeking to help others as well as ourselves to be both intentional and accountable in these things. We are also continuing to gather for corporate worship on some Sunday evenings—such as this coming Sunday. Blessings.

Please pray for our missionaries David & Julie Loop as they finish their furlough and travel back to Portugal next week. It was great to have them with us a few weeks ago.

Thank you for praying for us and we are praying for you too!

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Tom & Wanda MacAvoy

August Greetings!

August Greetings!

We are living in interesting times indeed. BUT God says…

Call unto me,

and I will answer thee,

and shew thee great and mighty things,

which thou knowest not.

Jeremiah 33:3

Interesting times sometimes provide some interesting opportunities.

A few weeks ago, during our morning worship, we took some special time to name and pray specifically for some police officers we know. Afterwards, I reached out to an officer I know personally. He was grateful and asked us to pray not only for him, but also for his wife and children. Then at our recent deacon meeting, one of our men suggested doing something more for several police at a few of our local stations. At the end of this letter I will paste a letter that we plan to send to these stations.

At the same meeting, the same man gave a devotional including Hosea 4:1, Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. After that, another of our men suggested we try to get the knowledge of God into some more homes in our area. As a result, we gave one year gift subscriptions to 11 families in our area for Here is a little promotion (and no, we don’t get any kickback 😊): Would you like to have access to unlimited streams of godly, Bible-based programs—already including over 1,000 documentaries, movies, music, and more? Anyone who searches for a video on secular streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+ constantly faces blatant promotion of violence, adultery, fornication, and social agendas like abortion and LGBTQ. Answers In Genesis launched on May 1 so that Christians everywhere will be able to hear and experience absolute Bible truth. The cost is just over $3 a month but for a 7-day free trial go to:

Thursday, August 27 at 7:00 pm we are hosting a concert by the quartet: “Forever Be Sure”. For a sampling of what a typical concert sounds / looks like, you’ll find this link to be helpful: I enjoy many of this quartet’s songs. “Lord, Let My Heart Be Quiet” is surely a good prayer to sing in these days. God says, Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth; Psalm 46:10.

Sunday, August 30 – Wednesday, September 2 we are having REVIVAL Meetings with Evangelist Mike Pelletier: “Our team is co-laboring with the churches that we are in, across America and across the world, seeking God for revival and reaching the lost for Christ. We desire for God to heal our land.”

August 5—One of our missionary families—Joe & Kerri Stinson are headed back to their mission field of Canada after their medical furlough.

One of our faithful members turns 90 on August 6—a very Happy Birthday to Max Peacock!

Another of our faithful members, Rick Young had brain surgery a few weeks ago and is battling cancer. Please pray fervently for Rick, Nadine, and Jodi.

Thank you for praying for us and we are praying for you too.

In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Tom & Wanda MacAvoy

Dear Officers,
With recent events in our country, we at Steam Valley Bible Church (SVBC) wanted to take time to let you know that we support you and give you all a very sincere and heartfelt Thank-You! We support you because you are trying to hold people to the laws of the land which is what God in His Word states you are to do (Romans 13; 1 Timothy 2). We are a church. We are for God and His Word. And we are for you because you are trying to do what God says.
We know that day after day you serve our community, seeking to make it a place where people can live safe, peaceful, healthy lives. This year especially, some of you have been on the scene in some difficult moments. You surely don’t always get the thanks you deserve.
On behalf of the entire SVBC family, allow me to take a moment and just say thank you. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your attitude. Thank you for all the hours you give. We realize that sometimes the job doesn’t stop when you go home, and so we also say thank you to your families for their sacrifice.
We are very thankful for your part in keeping our community safe. We have been praying for you and will continue to do so. If you have specific prayer requests or other things that we might be able to help you with, please feel free to reach out to us. It would be our privilege to try to help you in any way we can.
We hope you will enjoy the Dunkin Donuts gift card: it’s just a small token of our gratefulness.
Sincerely and Gratefully Yours, on behalf of all the folks at SVBC

July Greetings!

Do  you have a holy sense of expectancy, excitement, and optimism about the Lord and what He is doing? Do you want to finish with JOY? (Acts 20:24)

It was great to have our missionaries to Portugal with us yesterday—David, Julie, & Jocelyn Loop. Brother Dave preached on Acts 20:17-24 and how Paul lived in such a way as to finish his course/race  with JOY. At all seasons, Paul always was…

  1. Driven by COMMITMENT; vv. 18-19; serving the Lord with humility of mind; goal: the Lord be magnified, not me.

  1. Drawn by COMPASSION; v. 19; tears (largely missing in Christianity today). True compassion will produce action in my life!

  1. Dedicated to his CALL; vv. 19-21; he faced many trials but remained faithful to God’s call; he preached the whole counsel of God’s Word, vv. 20, 27.

  1. Determined in his COURSE; vv. 22-24; the unknown did not keep Paul from his determination to finish well. Finish your course with JOY!

Paul: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; 2 Timothy 4:7.

You and I can have the same testimony as Paul.

Let’s ask God to help us finish our course with JOY!

In Sunday School, we are finishing up our study in Genesis and pressing on into Exodus. The promise that we’ve been tracking as we follow the accounts through Genesis is the promise given to Abraham of a land, a nation, and a Seed Who would bless all nations. That promise extends even further back to God’s curse on the serpent, promising a Seed Who would bruise/crush the head of the serpent. As we leave Joseph and his father Jacob behind, we see that we are NOT leaving God’s promises behind. We have already seen many examples of…

  • God’s faithfulness to His promises,
  • His sovereignty over all of His creation, including man,
  • How He uses people to accomplish His will in the world, and…
  • God’s plan continues!

You probably know how I love the providences of God. They are so encouraging. So here’s another one. Our SVBC memory verse for July is 2 Timothy 2:8, Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel

On Sunday mornings we are working through the Gospel of John, currently on John chapter 18. Also on Sunday mornings, I am thankful for our Junior Church teachers and children. Yesterday, Emily ran up to me after church, gave me a hug, and through her junior church paper at me and said, Look what we learned! You can see by the pictures that they had a good way to remember the lesson. I asked Emily what the name of the man was that they learned about. She said Lazarus! Praise the Lord, we serve a living Savior—Jesus Christ!

Rejoice in the Lord always! The joy of the LORD is your strength! (Philippians 4:4; Nehemiah )

Thank you for praying for us and we are praying for you too.

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Tom & Wanda MacAvoy

June Greetings!

Joy! There is joy in serving Jesus! Last Sunday we had the privilege to dedicate children to the Lord, baptize two people, and honor those who have given their lives so that we have the freedom to worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth.

Emily Vick and James Marks followed the Lord in believer’s baptism. And the Marks and Wilkinson families dedicated their children to the Lord. We are thankful for and love these families: Seth, Jennifer, James, Samuel, & Adam Marks and Will, Rachelle, Liam, Trent, & Jordan Wilkinson. Please join with us in continuing to pray for all these dear people as they have taken these public steps to honor our Lord.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety; Proverbs 11:14.

We began assembling again physically on May 10, Mother’s Day. It was wonderful to be together again, and the singing was great! How blessed we are to be able to do this and we thank the Lord for it. I also want to thank the Lord for our deacons who continue to pray and lead in how to continue on in a way that pleases the Lord, ministers to His people, and maintain a good testimony in our community. Please continue to pray with us about these decisions. And considering that, please note that the activities on our June calendar are tentative. I want to get the June calendar out for prayer purposes, but it is probable that some activities will be changed, postponed, or cancelled. You are welcome to check our weekly bulletin or contact us to make sure if an activity is still scheduled or not.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind;2 Timothy 1:7.

Thank you for praying for us and we are praying for you too.

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Tom & Wanda MacAvoy
