April Greetings!

April Greetings!

Boast not thyself of tomorrow;

for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth; Proverbs 27:1.

But God knows! And thank the Lord that we know the God of gods Who knows all things.

WOW! What a huge change in our lives due to the Coronavirus. In light of that, this letter will be a bit longer than usual because I thought you could maybe use a bit of extra scriptural encouragement. Also, I will paste some of our recent announcements, cancellations, and postponements at the end of this letter. They are current as of this writing but may need to be updated by the time you receive this! ūüėä

Please feel free to contact me any time with needs, prayer requests, updates, or questions. This situation presents a great opportunity to love and serve‚ÄĒour Lord, our families, our church families, our missionaries, and our neighbors. May the Lord use this in us and through us for His glory!

With that thought in mind, what unusual opportunities (due to the coronavirus) have you had to love and serve other people in Jesus’ name?  God can use you and me!         Happy Spring!

God can use broken, flawed, and imperfect people!

Our strength lies neither in ourselves nor our perfections but in our God. Our Savior is perfect. He is the God of the flawed, the defective, and the damaged…

  • Moses was a stammerer.
  • John Mark was a deserter.
  • Jacob was a deceiver.
  • David had an affair.
  • Abraham was too old.
  • David was too young.
  • Paul was a murderer, as was Moses.
  • Jonah ran from God
  • Gideon and Thomas both doubted.
  • Elijah ran away
  • Martha was worrying.
  • Noah got drunk.
  • Moses was hot-tempered.

We are not an impressive lot, but Jesus is an amazing Savior!

He is superb in who He is and in all that He does. God does not call many wise, mighty, and noble; 1 Cor. 1:26. The truth is, we are so flawed that each one of us is unworthy to be called into the service of the Lord Jesus. Yet, there is no bruised reed whom Christ cannot restore and heal. Not one of His people has gone beyond His grace. Not one of us is useless.

Perhaps too many people have told us that we are incompetent, and that God has finished with us.  Oh, and yes, that quiet, accusing, inward voice has continually endorsed that sentiment. But God does not go down to Perfect Street to choose His workers. God can and does use the flawed.

Have you failed the Lord in the past? Take it to the Lord, confess your sins, and then move on with life. You are made righteous by the blood of the Lamb; Ro 3:25; 5:9; Heb 9:22; 1 John 1:7. If God can use the dead, dried jawbone of an old donkey (Judges 15:11-17), He can use you, and He can use me.

God can use broken, flawed, and imperfect people!

For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written,

He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord; 1 Corinthians 1:26-31.

Praise and Prayer:

  • Please pray for comfort for Lorraine Livermore and all the loved ones as our brother Vic went to be with our Lord early on Thursday morning, March 12. We thank the Lord for our church family providing a luncheon and many opportunities to be a blessing.

  • Earl Hughes continues to struggle with sickness. An inhaler is helping him a little. Please pray concerning his cough, sleeplessness, and that the doctor would have wisdom and communicate.

  • Many of you support different ministries at SVBC with your prayers and finances but don‚Äôt always get to see the fruit. So I thought you‚Äôd like to see some pictures from our Homeschool Helpers ministry And this is a good time to THANK YOU and thank the Lord‚ÄĒto God be the glory great things He is doing!

SVBC Coronavirus Announcements, Cancellations, & Revisions…

We are called upon in the Scriptures to submit to the authorities God has ordained over us unless those authorities directly defy God’s Word (Acts 5 and Romans 13). Such is not the case in this instance, so we will honor the suggestions of our national and state leadership. Therefore, SVBC Sunday services on March 22 were cancelled & this Sunday, March 29 is cancelled.

As of now however, we will continue with the following:

  • Prayer meetings on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm.

  • Men‚Äôs prayer fellowship on Saturdays at 8:00 am.

  • During both of the meetings, we can avoid physical contact and if there are more than 10 people, we can divide up in smaller groups.

Lord willing (& technology willing) I will again be preaching live on our Steam Valley Bible Church facebook page on Sundays at 9:30. Last Sunday this worked better than I expected and has had 153 views including some of our family, extended family, and friends so I am thankful for that. I was able to save it so it can be accessed at other times. If you have facebook capability and can like our page, you should get a notice of me going live.

Postponed until further notice…

  • SVBC 4th annual 3-on-3 Basketball Outreach (originally scheduled for March 22)

  • Forever Be Sure quartet; this is a Thursday at 7:00 pm (originally scheduled for April 2)

As of this writing, these events have not changed…

  • April 12 Resurrection Day with Evangelist Andy Gleiser and Family

  • April 26 Missionary Joe Stinson and Family and Master Club Awards in the

March Greetings!

What a great way to start March‚ÄĒwith the 1st being on the Lord‚Äôs Day. Join us as we start this new month together with fellowship in God‚Äôs Word continuing in the Gospel of John chapter 17 as well as partaking of the Lord‚Äôs Supper in the evening.

The picture is of some of the children enjoying game time during Master Clubs this past Wednesday. It’s a blessing to watch and listen as God’s Word is carefully and lovingly taught in the three different classes by our teachers. The Ambassador class is made up of the older children. This week I got to get with 2 of these boys and teach them about baptism as they were working on this verse:  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls; Acts 2:41. Both boys profess to have received Jesus as their Savior so it was a good opportunity to teach them what God’s Word states about baptism and encourage them to follow the Lord in believer’s baptism. This verse was timely as a baptism service is being planned for our grandson James. We are thankful and looking forward to it. Please pray with us to have wisdom, discernment, and the leading of the Holy Spirit as we desire to not baptize those who have made false professions but encourage those who truly have received Jesus Christ as their Savior to be obedient to our Lord in this matter. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven; Matthew 19:14.

Indoor skiing was one of the events some of our youth enjoyed at the Wacky Winter Olympics activity last week. It was a blessing to have fellowship with youth from Tabernacle Baptist Church and to hear the Gospel being clearly presented.

Last Sunday we again had visitors in the morning service‚ÄĒTammy & Jacob Lenher. When I contacted them this week to see about meeting with them Tammy said that her husband Gordon is

battling pneumonia along with the side effects resulting from the medicine he is taking. So they would appreciate your prayers too.

Please pray for Vic & Lorraine Livermore and family. Marlene told me that Vic’s cancer is back. He went back to the hospital on Wednesday.

Here are some other things to join us in prayer about…

March 22       SVBC 4th annual 3-on-3 Basketball Outreach

April 2            Forever Be Sure quartet; this is a Thursday at 7:00 pm

April 12          Resurrection Day with Evangelist Andy Gleiser and Family

April 26          Missionary Joe Stinson and Family and Master Club Awards in the evening

Lord willing this Sunday our adult Sunday School class will continue studying about Joseph from Genesis. Then in the morning worship time we will continue in John 17:13-29: We can overcome because we have the Overcomer’s Word! How does the Word of God enable us to overcome the world? To begin with , it gives us joy. And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves; John 17:13. Join us for great fellowship and encouragement in God and His Word!

I don’t know if you’ll be

able to see them or not in this picture, but as I was walking one day I heard a noise and looked up and saw these snow geese. Last Sunday night we finished reading the Psalms.

Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD; Psalm 150:6.

February Greetings!

February Greetings!

As a child in grade school I did not particularly like January and February because it seemed like they were so long and cold. As I got older, I began to look forward to these months because it seemed that the pace of life slowed down a bit. It is hard to believe that January 2020 is well-nigh over!

There are many privileges that pastors have. One is to probably be more often confronted than other people with both life and death. Please pray for brother Garth Roberts and his loved ones as Margaret Roberts recently passed away. Faithful missionaries for many years, it is encouraging to think of Margaret in the presence of our Lord and I pray that this truth will be a great comfort to her loved ones. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope; 1 Thessalonians 4:13.

So, as I remove the name of Margaret Roberts from our prayer calendar and bulletins (she is no longer in need of our prayers‚ÄĒpraise the Lord!) I also add a new name‚ÄĒJordan Reed Wilkinson! (born Friday, January 24; 8 lb 3 oz; 21 inches) We are thankful for the safe and healthy birth of this little boy and appreciate your prayers for Will, Rachelle, and the two big brothers‚ÄĒLiam and Trent. The Lord has blessed SVBC with quite a few boys!

I invite you to thank the Lord with us for His providences. As I am preaching through the Gospel of John, the week that Jordan was born was the week I was studying the next passage which had these verses: Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you; John 16:20-22.

Last Sunday after morning worship one of our teen girls and her friend greeted me as they were leaving. The friend was very open about wanting to talk about salvation and baptism. I said, How about now? So, my wife had the privilege of going through the Gospel with her and seeking to discern if she had received Christ as her Savior. She has asked to be baptized so we are excited about following up with her. We also had another person pray to receive Christ this month as well as one of our young children. Please pray with us as we continue to follow-up, disciple, love, encourage, and Lord willing baptize. We are thankful for the work the Lord is doing in hearts and praise Him for it!

We have several folks who are involved in continuing discipling and that is our theme for 2020. It is a blessing as we continue to pray to see the Lord providentially arranging folks to sharpen and be sharpened spiritually.

On Wednesday, we had our annual snow day for our Master Club children. The Lord has been increasing our numbers of children at these clubs as well as our Homeschool Helper group. We had 37 children out on Wednesday. Many thanks to our teen workers and ladies who made and served Walking Tacos to everyone. I want to ask you to both thank the Lord for safety and ask you to pray specifically for these children. We had 2 boys on a sled that almost went out on the road while a big truck came by. The truck slowed and there was no accident, but it was a scary situation. We are thankful for the adults that teach and help but we could use more help just watching in the gym times and during arrival and dismissal with small children and vehicles in the parking lot. Another prayer request is that we are meeting one-on-one with the older children to talk about salvation. It has been a blessing to me to talk with one student who gave a clear testimony of salvation. Another student that I talked with did not have a good grasp of it. O how we need the Bible being lived out in our homes.

Please pray as our Men’s Retreat is February 7-8. We have several men planning to come and are asking the Lord to stir our hearts, minds, and wills as the theme is Men at Home. If you know of any men or young men/teens who would like to join us, please let us know. Also, we could still use some help with breakfast for Saturday morning if anyone could volunteer.

In Christ’s Love,

Tom & Wanda MacAvoy
